Sound Drafting & Design Inc. was founded on practical construction experience and a deep understanding of how buildings are actually put together.
Alex Distler, lead designer, has been involved in the construction industry for most of his life. Starting at age 14, he worked alongside his father — a master carpenter trained in Germany — gaining early exposure to the standards, precision, and craftsmanship required to build well.
After earning a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo in 2006, Alex joined the family construction business full-time. His experience spans both hands-on field work and office-based project coordination, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of residential construction from foundation to finish.
In 2008, Alex obtained his BCIN qualification to design houses and small buildings under the Ontario Building Code. Since then, he has been involved in the design and construction of dozens of residential projects ranging from modest 800 sq ft homes to custom residences exceeding 6,000 sq ft.
Beyond single-family homes, Alex has also contributed to larger developments, including:
- Silver Birch Condominiums – a 96-unit condominium project
- A mixed-use building with 6 residential units and 3 commercial spaces
- A new medical arts building
This range of experience — from small residential builds to multi-unit developments — allows Sound Drafting & Design Inc. to approach each project with a broad perspective and a practical mindset. Every set of drawings is prepared with constructability, code compliance, and efficiency in mind.
Based in the Town of Parry Sound, we primarily serve clients within the surrounding region and understand the local building environment, site conditions, and approval processes.
